Redefining custom-made with digital dental products

A well-executed physical or digital impression isn’t enough to make a prosthesis that’s perfectly adapted to your patient’s mouth. The design and manufacturing method has a major impact on the final result and makes it even faster and easier to install.

Imagine executing the same operations in much less time and offering your patients a truly customized dental product. See how digital dental products developed using computer-aided design have redefined customization.

The advantages of computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) for digital dental products

With computer-aided design and manufacturing processes, or CAD/CAM, software is used to create a 3D model of a dental product. The digital process offers a wide range of advantages over traditional methods.

Digital dental productTraditional method
PrecisionCan take precise measurements and make complex calculations Impossible to get such precise results, as several steps are carried out by hand
EfficiencySimplifies the manufacturing process and reduces production timeThe production time is longer, as several steps are executed by hand
CustomizationKnows no limits, as it works for both simple and complex cases and offers 3D visualization before productionSeveral limitations, particularly with implants, and there’s no preproduction 3D visualization
Patient satisfactionUnique parameters can be used to make a very comfortable, custom-made dental product Less customizable and the dental products are generally less durable

5 digital dental products to transform your practice

Our custom-made digital prostheses suit a wide range of treatment plans.

1. Digital crown and bridge

These comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, durable prostheses provide functions similar to those of natural teeth. By modelling the crown or bridge in a 3D environment, the technologist can:

  • select the teeth from a library that contains a wide range of morphologies
  • choose the implants and dental attachments from a comprehensive virtual library
  • make anatomical changes, rotations and virtual movements using powerful digital transformation tools

2. Digital nightguard

The digitization of the process ensures better control of thickness for optimal comfort and increased resistance to breakage. Printed with biocompatible materials and digital resins, the digital nightguard complies with regulations and international standards for medical devices.

3. Digital metallic framework

CAD/CAM provides impressive fitting accuracy that reduces bulkiness and offers remarkable speaking and occlusal comfort. Thanks to high-quality printers, complex geometries that are normally impossible to manufacture can be reproduced.

4. Digital removable full denture

The digital removable denture is modelled with high-performance computer-aided design, so the technologist can:

  • make a precise alignment between the arches through basal and occlusal adjustment of artificial teeth
  • modify the aesthetic and functional position of the teeth
  • create parameters to adjust gum thickness
  • select the teeth according to occlusal concept and desired morphology from a library of reputable prosthetic teeth

5. Digital Prettau bridge

This product with perfect morphology is milled from a Prettau zirconia block, and the internal and external colours are hand-applied by brush. The digitization of the process means the technologist can:

  • select teeth from a bank that contains a wide range of morphologies
  • make anatomical changes, rotations and virtual movement using powerful digital transformation tools
  • place screw accesses optimally by implementing axis compensation techniques

A collaborative platform to facilitate the approval process

With TrakDesign, you can consult the three-dimensional modelling of a digital prosthesis. “The user can move the 3D dental model on a 360-degree vertical and horizontal axis and add study models to compare certain elements,” explains Charles Desjardins, General Director and Technical Expert at Lafond Desjardins and member of the team that developed the platform.

In addition to viewing a 3D model with TrakDesign, you can:

  • Comment: Our team receives the messages in real time and responds quickly.
  • Approve: Approval is received instantaneously, optimizing production time.
  • Collaborate on a specific case: Your concept can be digitized and accessible at any time on the platform. We suggest ideas to optimize it and make modifications if they are accepted. You can then consult the improved model on the platform. With study model filters, you can compare elements to make the best decisions before making the prosthesis.
  • Present the design to your patient: With the screen-capture tool, you can take photos of the dental model. These files can easily be sent by email. You can also use the TrakDesign link to discuss the treatment plan with your patient.

A modern and efficient manufacturing process

Computer-aided design and manufacturing is transforming dental care. Compared to traditional methods, CAD/CAM is quicker and more precise. It has redefined custom-made and elevated it to a higher level. Discover these digital dental products that are adaptable to a wide range of treatment plans and are changing the way things are done.
